Get It: A Solid Foundation

In recent weeks, it's felt like everyone has been quite concerned, all of a sudden, with my breasts. Was I wearing the right size? Ws I getting the most support? Was my bra working as hard for me, essentially, as it should be? I found the answers to these queries and more in an hour-long lingerie fitting at Journelle.

Tucked into a side street near Union Square, Journelle's a quiet and luxurious reprieve for the lingerie-obsessed. Carrying an assortment of international brands ranging from Eberjey to Stella McCartney to Chantelle, their fit specialists generally have one mission and one mission alone - to get you/me/everyone into a better fitting and more beautiful bra. Noble, yes?

Bra fittings can be quite surprising, so brace yourself accordingly if you plan to visit a specialist (and you should - every six months, if you can abide by it). Journelle moved me from a 34B to a 32D in most styles, and I realized that despite my love of soft cup styles like this spicy little number from La Fee Verte, I really do best (read: look and feel my best) in structured lace styles like the Elle Macpherson babes seen above (her nickname wasn't 'The Body' for nothing; mmmkay?), OR this gloriously sexy C Chic Lace Demi Bra from Chantelle ($68):

Can you even? I mean, I can't. But, on second thought - I CAN and I WILL.

Pop into Journelle for an expert fitting if you're in the neighborhood (it might just change your life) - or simply explore their decadent assortment online here.

Around Town (Rooftop Edition)

Spring has finally arrived in New York, and so, it's only fitting that this week has been resplite with rooftop events. I'm still on the mend from my broken wrist, so please forgive the abbreviated recap below - words are at a premium these days!

Wednesday evening kicked off as few Wednesdays do - with a shower of sorts for bride-to-be and avid Twitterer Chrissy Teigen. Gillette Venus did up right for their longtime spokeswoman and also successfully kicked off 'shave season' with the introduction of their Gillette Venus & Olay Sugarberry razor. It smells sweet and keeps legs exfoliated and ultra-smooth (it's hard not to be smooth with five blades in the mix), no shave cream required!

Then it was off to the West Village to Too Faced's sweet Summer-themed event, complete with (spiked) Lemonade Stand (seen above) and petite classic summertime treats - think corn dogs and salt water taffy! Of course, Too Faced is best known for easy-to-use and high impact makeup, and the myriad of bronzers in their collection are definite summer essentials - particularly if you're like me and rapid about sun protection.

Last but not least, my friends at MYHABIT kicked off summer and (more importantly), their Swim & Sun-themed events in lifestyle, home, fashion and beauty with a poolside party downtown on the roof of the Hotel Americano. Swanky!

Cheers to gorgeous weather, y'all!

Listen Up: Headphones for Every Style

After years of the discreet Apple earbud, BIG headphones are making what feels like a BIG, high-style comeback. And regardless of your personal style - girly, playful, minimalist or bold - there's a pair to suit. Above, a few of my favorites:

Molami's insanely chic collection of headphones are in a class all their own - the end. Minimalist across the board  - the three styles are available in just stark black or white, with varying hardware - the most unique style is also the newest. The Twine ($200) does double duty as a silk chiffon headband, wrapping around your head and providing all-encompassing sound.

The SOL REPUBLIC and tokidoki Tracks HD headphones ($149.99) offer FUN (all caps required), along with amazing sound, and a virtually indestructible design. As a bonus, the headbands are interchangeable (see here), so if you tire of the quirky signature tokidoki animation, you can swap out for a color of your choice and have what feels like a new pair of headphones.

The Taylor headphones by Frends ($199) have become almost ubiquitous in the fashion industry - in fact, I can think of at least five women in my office who're rocking them currently, and with VERY good reason. The jewelry-inspired, pyramid-stud-on steroids design make these the perfect supplemental accessory, though it's the luxe materials and solid sound that keep them in my current rotation as a favorite.

Urbanears does one thing very, very well and that's CLEARLY color. Their classic, almost-modular styles - seen above is the Plattan ($59.90) - come in a BOUNTY of colors (13, to be exact) for men and women, though I'm loving the perfectly-on-trend-for-spring coral seen above most.

Shop This: Alice & Olivia SoHo Pop Up

alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet has officially open the doors of its first-ever pop up shop in SoHo. The shop will be open through the Summer, and features the brand's EXCEPTIONAL new handbag collection (also for perusal here, if you're so inclined) along with an assortment of Spring and Summer styles, with a particular focus on bold color.

If you're in the market for a little fashion fun, pop by the Pop Up at 72 Greene Street, any Monday-Saturday 10am – 7pm or Sunday 12pm – 6pm.

YOU CAN (Dress a Sweatshirt Up or Down)

Let's be honest with one another, if only for a moment. If you had told me six months ago that SWEATSHIRTS would all of a sudden feel like the height of chic, I'd have told you to smoke another one, Rihanna. BUT, as happens from time to time, I've been proven wrong and find myself newly obsessed with the effortlessness that IS the sweatshirt.

Enter Thread Society*'s high-quality and affordable basics, including the "Sexy, Slouchy Fleece" seen above. After being sent a care package, I experimented with a sweatshirt for both a dressed down look, and a dressed up take for the office (granted, I don't exactly work in banking). Here's what I wore in each test-drive:

Down:
Rachel Leigh and Roman Luxe necklaces
Rag & Bone Skinny Jeans
Isabel Marant Bayley

Up:
LOFT Necklace
T.Babaton Cohen Pant (so good, I have it in three colors)
Rachel Comey Mars Bootie in Mini Leopard

My key takeaway for styling a more traditional sweatshirt, meaning a straightforward heather gray like this one? Statement necklaces go a loooong way! I worried in both instances that I looked a little casual, but once I threw on some major jewelry, I felt ready for almost any occasion.

Have you experimented with a sweatshirt yet this season? Share any styling tips in the comments!

Body Con: Crystal Renn for Agent Provocateur

Former plus-size model Crystal Renn has become the new face - and body - of Agent Provocateur, one of my favorite purveyors of uber-sexy lingerie. Shot by Purple Magazine's Olivier Zahm, the collection and the snaps are said to be inspired by road-trip films, though I remain inspired most by Crystal Renn's incredible body transformation.

The Prabal Gurung for Target Lookbook Has Arrived (And It's Glorious)

I had never thought of myself as a Prabal Gurung obsessive, but then the Prabal Gurung for Target collection lookbook arrived in my inbox and everything changed.

Inspired by "a tender love story", there's lots to love here, including women’s apparel, shoes and jewelry. Hot on my list (and seen in the gallery below):

  • Shirtdress in Nolita Print, $39.99
  • Sweatshirt in First Date Print (crewneck sweatshirts are really having a moment right now, and it's imperative that I buy a ticket and board the train), $29.99
  • Shorts in Floral Crush Print, $26.99
  • Pointy Toe Flats in Nolita Print, $29.99
  • Bangles - all, every one in a stack!, $16.99 each

Grand total for a glorious new Spring wardrobe refresh? $177.87. That's less than 1/3 the cost of the new Isabel Marant kicks I snagged last week (we'll put on the agenda for discussion at a later date, yes?).

Ranging in price from $19.99 to $199.99 for apparel and $12.99 to $39.99 for accessories and shoes, Prabal Gurung for Target will be available Feb. 10, 2013 at all Target stores and Target.com.

Merry Christmas to You & Yours!

Another year is coming to a close, and I'll be spending the day celebrating with friends and thinking about what's to come in 2013. In the meantime, enjoy one of my favorite snaps of the season, a glimpse at the Bergdorf Goodman, BG Follies-themed holiday windows. Those staggeringly beautiful gowns are by Mr. Naeem Khan and if I die without an occasion to wear a dress THAT lovely, it will be a shame.

Ticket to Ride: Westfield's Holiday Shuttle

The carousel at the Garden State Plaza. For more snaps, follow me on Instagram.

One of my closest-held secrets is my unequivocal love of MALLS. I mean, don't get me wrong, shopping upper Madison, SoHo or NoLita is a delight, but there's just SOMETHING about knowing that Cinnabon and Auntie Anne's are in close proximity that makes me feel safe, warm and well, like spending my hard-earned moola. Unfortunately for me, malls are few and far between in Manhattan (okay, there's actually only one, the Manhattan Mall, and it's fully mis), so whenever possible (read once or twice a year), I like to rent a car and take what I call a Suburban Day, which entails me and a friend renting a car, going to a mall and eating at chain restaurant - say Outback Steakhouse or Chili's. It's fun all around, you guys.

The peeps at Westfield clearly understand me, and wish to make my (and your!) life a little less complicated this holiday season though - so, they've launched a FREE Westfield Holiday Shuttle that takes mall-deprived Manhattanites like ME to one of the BEST malls in the tri-state area - the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ. I took a little jaunt out last week, and was thrilled to shop - tax-free! (except fur...I see what you did there, PETA) - the bounty of stores, including Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom - yay! (And yes, I ate a 'bon or two.)

If you're in the mood for some shopping, pick up the Westfield Holiday Shuttle, which runs Monday through Saturday, three times a day from Times Square to the Garden State Plaza mall. The trip takes about 30 minutes, sans traffic:

DEPARTING TIMES:
From Times Square
9:30am, 11:00am, 2:30pm
(Shuttle Departures board across the street from Madame Tussauds on 42nd Street between 7th & 8th Avenue.)

RETURNING TIMES:
From Westfield Garden State Plaza
1:00pm, 4:00pm, 6:00pm
(Shuttle Returns board at Bus Depot in parking lot by California Pizza Kitchen near Entrance 10 of shopping mall.)

In Process: The Winter Closet Edit & Hello La Mode

Something that might surprise you to know about me is that I’m a perennial EDITOR. So, though I do indeed (as you might have suspected) shop endlessly, I also ruthlessly remove things from my closet on the regular. I have two filters, and any item that stays in my closet has got to pass through at least one:

  • Do I love it? I want to feel AMAZING every single time I put on something I own.
  • If I don’t love it, does it serve a necessary function? I mean, it’s pretty hard to love, say, a nude camisole or a pair of snow boots, but both are items I’ve gotta keep in my closet for even occasional wear.

That’s where Hello La Mode comes in.

Hello La Mode is new to the world of online fashion, and it’s pretty unique as well. The site serves as a members-only, certified luxury resale marketplace. That’s right: certified. What that means is, unlike say eBay, there are no terrible surprises when you buy or sell on Hello La Mode. Each purchase is manually authenticated by their team prior to being shipped to you – there’s no danger of counterfeit merch AND you can be sure that the condition of the bag, shoe, accessory or apparel item is up to snuff.

To celebrate their launch, I’ve partnered with Hello La Mode to do some closet cleaning of my own. And my loss, friends, is YOUR gain. Up for grabs in my closet are bags, shoes, clothing and accessories from some of my favorite brands, including:

To create your own Hello La Mode profile where you can shop my closet along with the closets of other Style Coalition bloggers, click here – you’ll even get $50 off any purchase just for joining! And while you’re on site, don’t forget to do a little Closet Detox-ing of your own – one new Hello La Mode member will be awarded a $3,000 shopping spree, with the winner chosen on 1/31/13. Happy shopping, and happy detoxing, y’all!

While all opinions expressed are my own, this post was produced in collaboration with Hello La Mode and Style Coalition.
