#NYFW Tease: Rebecca Taylor

Rebecca Taylor is always among of my wish-list shows each Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and Spring 2012 appears to be no exception. For the upcoming season, the designer's muse is contemporary, fresh, and ethereal, with a collection that emphasizes cut and color with unexpected cut-outs in silhouettes.

Shades of oyster are highlighted by bold citrus colors of lemon, lime and tangerine.  Cropped slouchy embellished sweaters, long skirts and voluminous outerwear in technical fabrics add edge while apron back dresses mixed with bone colored snake leather bibs inject a paired down cool attitude which sets the tone for the Spring 2012 collection.

What do you think? Is your interest piqued? Rebecca Taylor's Spring 2012 collection shows on Friday, September 9 at 2PM EST. If you can't make it to Lincoln Center, tune in to the livestream at www.youtube.com/liverunway.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011: Beauty Beat at Jason Wu

Jason Wu is yet another designer whose show I didn't manage to cover this season, but he's a young talent that I REALLY admire.  And now, Wu is taking his brand to the next level with his first ever collaboration with CND.

Available for purchase next May, the 5 piece Jason Wu Collection ($47) was gifted to show guests this weekend and includes:

  • Miss Wu - Jason's signature limestone, a warm gray that dries matte with subtle chrome sheen, in perfect harmony of masculinity and femininity
  • Brigitte - voluptuous warm pink that perfectly channels 50's screen siren
  • Sophia - gorgeous mushroom taupe
  • Veronica - highlights the evolution of decadence with a blue-based, oxblood red
  • Anna Effect - layered over any of the four Colours provides a tweed finish via microscopic fibrous pieces that create cool, subtle texture

I must admit that while nail polish is the last thing in the free world that I need to acquire more of, I'll be adding this set to my spring shopping list.

What do you think? Do any of Wu's color creations speak to you?

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011: Beauty Beat at Cushnie et Ochs

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I'm taking it slow and steady this Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Between a bevy of work activities (more to come on that!) and an overwhelming desire to put on my Norma Kamali sweatpants, I'm covering just the events that a)suit my schedule and b)legitmately interest me.  And while I missed the September 9 Cushnie et Ochs show at Lincoln Center, celebrity nail tech Pattie Yankee of Dashing Diva worked a little magic backstage - magic that I plan to replicate soon.

As you'll see in the gallery images below, the models nails were painted with a basic clear base coat and finished with an imperfect gold foil. I love that this look is innately glam, but still downtown in feeling.

What do you think?

Runway Redux: Billy Reid Fall 2010

Alabama-based menswear designer Billy Reid made his New York Fashion Week debut this season with a coolly styled Fall 2010 presentation at Milk Studios last weekend.

As you'll see in the gallery, the set was styled to feel innately autumnal while the chic men's separates felt polished and collegiate with a certain Dead Poets Society air about them. This collection was truly a favorite of mine - and I'm now extra curious to see the designer's capsule women's collection.  What do you think of Billy Reid?

Runway Redux: Yigal Azrouel Fall 2010

For Fall/Winter 2010, Yigal Azrouël presented a collection strong on tailoring. Silhouettes were lean and architectural, with undertones of reconstruction. Hybrids of different garments and fabrications creates new silhouettes and pseudo layers. This is most relevant in the jackets with resin leather sleeves and the subtle patchwork details seen throughout.

Fully matched suits offer toughness with removable shearling cuffs, leather inserts and metal accents. The masculine/feminine play works its way into the men’s and women’s collections equally. High-neck details emphasize a certain restraint yet offer softness in their drape and asymmetry.

Preferring a streamlined look, texture is created from the self-fabric with technical intricacy. Spontaneous bursts of color come in rouge, pansy and butterscotch, lightening the mood. Azrouël also designed several looks for Swarovski, integrating the crystal elements with unexpected garments like a rough, distressed leather jacket and raw drape knit.

Runway Redux: Elise Overland Fall 2010

Saturday evening, I hit Exit Art for the Fall 2010 Elise Overland show.  Seated front row were beauties Heidi Klum, Maggie Rizer and Kelly Osbourne (who looked amazing, in case you were wondering - evidence below) though ultimately, the collection stole the show.

Overland calls a video of open heart surgery as her inspiration for the season, saying “I got inspired by the lushes layers of texture and rich glossy colors of the heart.”

This modern collection, comprised of silks, velvets, shearlings and leathers with substance and power, had a distinctly rock n’ roll, yet sophisticated and chic aesthetic.

Runway Redux: Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2010 Presentation

It's a been a crazy Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week thus far and I'm soooo far behind on posts, i don't even want to talk about it. Even though I mentioned it just now.  But if you want real time scoop on the backstage beauty and runway looks that I'm covering, be sure to follow me on Twitter here: http://twitter.com/eye4style.

One of the first Fall 2010 presentations on my calendar this season was intended to be Rebecca Minkoff. I'm a HUGE  fan of her luxe but wearable bags and was uber excited to see her return to apparel.  Unfortunately, the presentation was moved up by two hours at the last minute, so I wasn't able to attend.  Instead, I snagged this fab video from YouTube -
