Flip It, Flip It Good! Pantene's #HairFlipOff Challenge

I don't know about you guys, but one of my obsessions of the past year has easily been...the GIF. You can even scroll through a few of my favorite GIF blogs here. So, you can imagine how thrilled I am to (FINALLY) have a starring role in my very own GIF (and a GIF focused on one of my very favorite things at that - my HAIR).

Created by my friends at Pantene to kick off their #HairFlipOff Challenge, you can see me get a little bit silly (and a little bit sassy) below, and if you're so inclined, I encourage you to take the challenge too - show me and Pantene what you've got!

Embracing the Flip Off is easy, and you can get as creative as you like on video application Vine (follow me @Dina Fierro while you're at it). Once you've created your six second clip, just share the video to Twitter along with @Pantene's handle and the hashtag #HairFlipOff. Select Vines will be turned into a GIFs like mine, and shared via the @Pantene Twitter feed this Sunday, April 14, during the MTV Movie Awards.

I'll also be live-tweeting along with @Pantene during the show, sharing my favorite hair looks of the night. Be sure to follow and tweet along for a chance to win Pantene products just by retweeting or favoriting @Pantene during the show.

See you then!

On the Scene at Vision Expo: Here's What's Next in Specs & Sunnies

A #VisionExpo #Selfie

I'm a regular contact lens wearer but in recent months, I've been experimenting more and more with eyewear. After all, glasses can be a killer way to freshen up your look, or to add interest and contrast to an outfit. And after a visit to Vision Expo, the annual eyewear trade and trends show held at the Javits Center in New York, I'm reminded that what I find most interesting is that the trends in eyewear aren't specific to sunglasses - these days, you can also find specs in memorable shapes and colors, and with truly incredible, statement-making details.

At Vision Expo, I was not only able to explore all of the latest trends in eyewear, I also caught up with style expert Jenn Falik, who was on the scene to chat trends and key takeaways. If you're planning to add eyewear or a new pair of sunnies (or two!) to your accessories wardrobe this season, here's what you'll want to look for:

  • Unique details and slight embellishment, like the tiny baby pyramid studs seen here on the nose bridge of these Balmain

  • Statement brow bars, a la the fur-trim Givenchy seen here, or the Valentino Rockstud sunnies seen above

  • Printed frames or, in dramatic juxtaposition, clear ones - seen on both eyeglasses and shades. I particularly liked the fun and affordable Kensie version below.

Truth be told, there were too many pairs of eyewear to love at Vision Expo to recount in a single post, but I will say that a few brands REALLY stood out - among them, Balmain's statement-making eyewear and sunwear, the new (to me?) collection of frames from 3.1 Phillip LimEté's exotic wood frame specs and the luxe French collection, Face à Face. I'll also be keeping my eyes peeled for frames by Selima for celebrity stylist, June Ambrose, who also has a great-looking collection of shoes launching at HSN this Spring.

If you have any favorite eyewear brands that I may have missed, leave a comment below, or tweet me @eye4style. And for updates on all things eyewear, visit the Eyecessorize blog, and follow my friends at @eyecessorize on Twitter!

In Process: The Winter Closet Edit & Hello La Mode

Something that might surprise you to know about me is that I’m a perennial EDITOR. So, though I do indeed (as you might have suspected) shop endlessly, I also ruthlessly remove things from my closet on the regular. I have two filters, and any item that stays in my closet has got to pass through at least one:

  • Do I love it? I want to feel AMAZING every single time I put on something I own.
  • If I don’t love it, does it serve a necessary function? I mean, it’s pretty hard to love, say, a nude camisole or a pair of snow boots, but both are items I’ve gotta keep in my closet for even occasional wear.

That’s where Hello La Mode comes in.

Hello La Mode is new to the world of online fashion, and it’s pretty unique as well. The site serves as a members-only, certified luxury resale marketplace. That’s right: certified. What that means is, unlike say eBay, there are no terrible surprises when you buy or sell on Hello La Mode. Each purchase is manually authenticated by their team prior to being shipped to you – there’s no danger of counterfeit merch AND you can be sure that the condition of the bag, shoe, accessory or apparel item is up to snuff.

To celebrate their launch, I’ve partnered with Hello La Mode to do some closet cleaning of my own. And my loss, friends, is YOUR gain. Up for grabs in my closet are bags, shoes, clothing and accessories from some of my favorite brands, including:

To create your own Hello La Mode profile where you can shop my closet along with the closets of other Style Coalition bloggers, click here – you’ll even get $50 off any purchase just for joining! And while you’re on site, don’t forget to do a little Closet Detox-ing of your own – one new Hello La Mode member will be awarded a $3,000 shopping spree, with the winner chosen on 1/31/13. Happy shopping, and happy detoxing, y’all!

The Relentless Purse-Uit of Power

As a New Yorker who’s constantly, blessedly on the go, my long days are powered by just a precious few things, most notably coffee (iced, with real sugar and half & half, please), my Metrocard and my handbag.

Everything I need to go from breakfast meeting to evening cocktails is tucked inside my purse, but at the same time I do my best to carry just the essentials, essentially just what you see below:

  • Rebecca Minkoff Circle Quilt Swing in Cement is small, but roomy
  • Linea Pelle Dylan Zipper Wallet– I’m obsessed with the soft leather, bright purple color and amazing zip detail!
  • Headphones (the Spotify app keeps a spring in my step)
  • Jalda Croc Embossed Business Card Case, with both business and blog cards (you never know who you might meet – #ABM, my friends)
  • Norma Kamali Square Cat Eye Sunglasses (in case)
  • Mophie Juice Pack Reserve Portable iPhone Charger (must, must, must!)
  • Sheets Energy Strips in Cinnamon Rush
  • Band-Aid Brand Blister Block (I do my best to choose comfortable shoes, but you never know.)
  • Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in a pop color like Lovesick (a bright lip color can make a look in an instant, and this formula is foolproof!)
  • iPhone!

I’m curious – what are the essentials in your purse? If you’re down to share, join ELLE & Revlon in The Purse-Uit of Power on Facebook, and you’ll have the chance to win a uniquely curated designer power purse (each is valued at $3,000!) online, or dropped at a very special pop-up event in the real world.

Pay close attention, peeps, because clues to the bag drop location will be revealed exclusively on Revlon's Facebook page and you’ll also be able to play an instant win game daily for products.  Each time you play, you’ll be entered to win the afore-mentioned ELLE-approved designer bag, chock full of goodies that include Revlon products.

Good luck in YOUR ‘Purse-Uit of power’ – may the force be with you, ladies!

Watch This: The Beauty Inside & Toshiba’s Portege Ultrabook

As you might have guessed, I spent the past weekend in full New York Fashion Week-recovery mode – think takeout from The Meatball Shop, cupcakes from Sugar Sweet Sunshine, and two days committed to one purpose, and one purpose alone – relaxation.

I couldn’t detach entirely, however, so I spent a bit of time in bed catching up on the interactive social film, The Beauty Inside on my Toshiba Excite 10 tablet (the YouTube app is a lifesaver!)

Starring Topher Grace, Matthew Gray Gubler, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, as well as people from around the world who have posted their auditions to Facebook, the series was produced in part by Intel and Toshiba. You’ll also catch a cameo by the Toshiba Portégé Ultrabook™ - an ultra thin, sleek yet powerful laptop, perfect for a girl on go.

The first episode of The Beauty Inside already boasts close to half a million views on YouTube – and once you’ve watched, it will come as no surprise – the story is romantic and touching, and the concept innovative.

While there’s just one episode left, going live on Thursday, 9/20, it doesn't take long to catch up; episodes are an easily digestible 4-6 minutes long. Check out the first ep below and visit YouTube to see them all:

Learn more about the Toshiba Portégé® Z930 Ultrabook here or retweet this tweet for a chance to win your own (entry period ends on Sunday, full rules here!)

Special thanks to Toshiba for keeping me connected during New York Fashion Week.

Fit for Fall with Old Navy's Rockstar Skinnies

It's not every Friday that I spend walking a runway in Bryant Park, but last week, thanks to Old Navy's fun Fit for Fall event, I did just that. And let me tell you, it was a lot more nerve-wracking than I expected!

I arrived on set to a mega-production - a huge stage on the hallowed grounds of Bryant Park, with lines of women ready to swap out their jeans and strut their stuff. Fellow bloggers were finding their perfect fit, while actress Jenny McCarthy was preparing to host the show, looking gorgeous in tone-on-tone purple (she rocked Rockstar Pop-Color Jeans in Plummy Mummy.)

I couldn't resist taking a bit of inspiration from Jenny when I styled my look, seen below and on the runway (see if you can spot me in the vid below!) Here's what I wore:

How to Wear It: Lands' End Canvas Slim Fit Chino

'It's all in the fit' is a style mantra that I remind both myself and friends of, OFTEN. Take, for example, a simple, straightforward classic like a chino pant, snore, right? Yet, in the right color and fit, it's instantly elevated. Like, for example, the neat new Slim Fit Chino from Lands' End Canvas, seen above in Praline. New to the Lands' End Canvas collection this fall, this thoroughly modern chino does what few chinos have done before it...namely, flatter! It's available in a bevy of super fun colors too, I'm planning to pick up the bright, poppy Emerald when it's back in stock in my size, but I digress.

Here's how I styled the Slim Fit Chino for a chill Sunday dinner:

If you're into a good chino, the peeps at Canvas are giving you a chance to win - simply pin my look above, as well as 5 products from Lands' End Canvas to a dedicated #CanvasChinos Board on Pinterest, and submit a link to your board on Facebook for a chance to win a $100 gift card. Pin images of all five bloggers participating in this week's campaign (see Tucked Style's look yesterday) along with 5 other pieces from Canvas and the contest graphic below for a chance to win $500, which, IF MY MATH IS CORRECT, is 5x better than winning $100.

For more from Lands' End Canvas, visit my friend Dianna over at The Budget Babe tomorrow, and for the full run-down on the Pin It to Win It Chino Challenge, check out the specifics here:

New York Fashion Week, Recapped: Fashion & Technology Converge

As a fashion person who's fully vested in social media - both personally and professionally - I'm continually interested in how style and technology converge. Truth be told, I didn't see a lot of innovation within social or technology this New York Fashion Week (live streaming, live-tweeting and live-pinning are old news by now!), with the notable exception of DVF's runway debut of Google Glass.

In case you're not familiar (read: as tech-obsessed as the author), Google Glass are the eagerly-anticipated, augmented reality enhanced glass being developed by Google. As follow up to their Sunday runway debut, DVF has now released a short film using footage recorded on the Glass camera before, during and after the DVF NYFW show:

Google Glass is an intriguing proposition, I'll admit, though I'm not sold on the integration. For the moment, I'll take my technology in a more amenable way - my mobile, my tablet, and of course, an ever-present laptop. If you're with me, you'll want to vote in the fun design contest that HP (LONG an innovator, remember their first-of-it's-kind partnership with Vivienne Tam?) is running. 40 finalists took their challenge to design a stylish and functional laptop bag suited perfect for the small size of the brand's Ultrabook notebook computer, and one winner will be chosen by a panel of experts - namely: Jill of Inhabitat.com, the writers at Core 77, and Mondo from Project Runway Season 8. OH, and did I mention that they'll also receive $10,000? Sweet!

Visit the contest site for more details, and to vote for your favorite design - the power's in your hands, peeps! www.hp.com/projectrunway

Fit for Fall: Old Navy to Stage a Fashion Show for All - Tomorrow!

New York Fashion Week may have wrapped, but my walk down the runway awaits! I'm super excited to share that I'll be styling a colorful pair of Old Navy Rockstar skinny jeans and strutting my stuff (or what's left of it, after a crazy week) down the runway in Bryant Park tomorrow. Join me from 4-8pm, and you can take home a pair of your own. Deets below!

New York Fashion Week Rolls On: The Toshiba Excite 10, Reviewed

While I've had an older tablet for some time, the new Toshiba Excite 10 has had a pretty significant impact on my New York Fashion Week experience this weekend. There are a few things that I'm loving the most, notably:

  • SIZE. The Excite 10 is a full 10 inch screen, which is substantial when it comes to web browsing or entertainment absorption - in fact, the screen just one inch smaller than my home laptop. BUT, the ultra thin tablet is incredibly light, and slides easily into my Alexander Wang tote (seen above). I think my cosmetics bag actually weighs more, if we're being perfectiy honest with one another. (Sorry, not sorry!)
  • SPEED. My GOODNESS is the OS on this Android-based tablet FAST - surprisingly so. The UI is also beautifully responsive, in part thanks to the built-in SWYPE keyboard -there's none of the annoying lag that I sometimes experience on my mobile and it makes all the difference in the world.
  • SLEEKNESS. The Toshiba Excite 10 is a stylish creature, there's no doubt. But not preciously so, which is nice. You can toss this baby around a bit, should you so desire - the hardy glass screen is scratch-resistant, no case necessary.

To learn more about the Toshiba Excite 10 tablet, visit ToshibaTablets.com and while you're at it, follow my friends @ToshibaUSA on Twitter.
