Olivia Wilde's alter ego—at least when it comes to fashion—is French: "I find myself constantly pretending I'm a chic Parisian," says the L.A.-based actress (she plays 13 on House).

"I even dream of buying a Balmain jacket (don't we all, Olivia, don't we all?) with really sharp shoulders. If I can pull off that look, I will have succeeded, at least partially, in my quest."

While I love, love, love a drugstore bargain, hair is usually the category where cheap DOESN'T equal chic. My feelings changed a week or two ago, however, when I had the pleasure of meeting celebrity stylist and Pantene spokeswoman Hallie Bowman.

With clients like Keri Russell, Emmy Rossum, Isla Fisher, Liv Tyler and Lucy Liu, this woman knows hair, so when she talked trends and more importantly, product, I took notice.

Hallie's key trends for Fall 2009 were definitely mixed texture (love) and '80's shapes, which she called out specifically in the 'Lob' (or the long bob), Half-Up Glam (a deep side part with the top half of hair pulled back) and the Updo Upgrade (an ever-so-disheveled take on the classic chignon.)

When it comes to hair products and tools, Hallie advises women to spend where it really counts - invest in a high end blow dryer and flat iron as the pricier brands work more quickly, minimizing the damage done to hair. But when it comes to product, experiment with drugstore brands to find what works for your hair. She called out a few fave Pantene products, in particular the Texture Spray Wax, which is perfect for use wet or dry.

For years, I tortured my super-sensitive skin with intense physical and chemical exfoliants. I was convinced, absolutely convinced, that scrubbing my sins away (literally) would solve all of my skin issues.

My girl crush Katy Perry left whimsy behind for this week's Met Gala appearance.  Her architectural gown jived nicely with the chic and glamorous hairstyle created by Pasquale Ferrante of New York's ION Studio. Read on for a bit of exclusive scoop on Katy's Met Gala look:

e4s: What was your inspiration for the look?

PF: Cleopatra. She’s a beautiful, strong, and independent woman just like Katy.

e4s: How involved was Katy in the direction for the hair?

PF: Katy was very involved in the direction of the hair. She is fantastic to work with because she knows what she wants, but is also open to developing her vision with both myself and her makeup artist. I think her look really came together, evoking Cleopatra – the dress really chose her. She looked beautiful.

e4s: Any key products or techniques to get the look?

PF: I used a variety of Davines products. After washing her hair, I sprayed in Dede Leave-in Conditioner and added Defining Volume Mousse for extra volume. After blow drying her hair straight, I used a 1 ½ inch curling iron to add volume and depth to her ends. To finish, I secured the style by spraying Defining Invisible Hairspray.
