We all have those items in our closet. The skirt that's too flouncy, the jeans that are too tight, or in this case, the shirt that's too...too.
Too big, too voluminous, too shapeless. You name it and this shirt's it. So, while I still love the summery cotton blouse in theory (so different from reality, no?), I'll be relegating it to sleepwear as of TODAY.
Made of deliciously soft stretch denim, these jeans boast a careful attention to both wash and details. The silver tuxedo stripe makes a statement, but quietly. I can't wait to do these justice; expect to see them incorporated in another OOTD soon.
Even though it's a bit gray and still chilly in New York today, I'm ready for Spring! In honor of the new season, I've taken the liberty of retiring my closed toe shoes, neutral bag and winter coat, in favor of a lighter look. Top to bottom, here's what I'm wearing today:
The very word "jeggings" makes me feel worried and anxious. After all, jeans are among the MOST difficult fashion items to buy and leggings are notoriously unforgiving. So...a hybrid between the two? Not so much.
Of course, that's what I thought before trying out Hudson's Collin Skinny Leggings with Flap Pockets. The thick black fabric on these (closer to a legging than denim) is sleek, flattering and beyond comfortable. The styling is genius as well - the belt loops and flap pockets trick the eye into thinking that these are black jeans, so they're super simple to dress up or down.
If there were such a concept as hell on earth, I'm convinced it would involve shopping for jeans in some way. Thus, my strategy is AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. But when you grow a tad too large for all of your existing pairs of denim (oh dear), you're left with no choice. Graciously, kindly, Beija-Flor, a new collection of Brazilian denim, made my most recent denim experience a tad more tolerable with their bootcut Jennifer Jean.
Portuguese for hummingbird, Beija-Flor literally means “kiss the flower”. The jeans are constructed of a dark-wash, thin stretch denim and contoured to fit a woman's waist - higher in the back and lower in the front. The Jennifer in particular is a mid-rise style, which is helpful if you have a little tummy action happening like I do. The collection also has straight leg styles and a super cute denim skirt, which I am currently eyeing.
Beija-Flor runs a tad larger than most high end denim lines, so I recommend sizing down. They're beyond comfortable and quite flattering - in fact, on my first night out in Beija-Flors, I got two great compliments!
The Jennifer Jean retails for $170. Beija-Flor jeans are available in over 100 boutiques nationwide - to find a store or shop online, visit www.ilovethesejeans.com.
It's been a long time since I've strayed from extremes on denim. I either splurge on the pricier Seven for All Mankind, James Jeans or Citizens of Humanity or I go the wallet-friendly route and hit up Old Navy for my always-on-standby Diva skinnies.
But when Glam.com and Levi's hosted a store event last week in New York City, I couldn't resist picking up a couple of pairs of great new jeans there (courtesy a generous gift card, that is.)
In my shopping bag? The Mid Rise Boot Cut 553 from the Eco line and the newly trendy (but always classic) 501 Boyfriend Cut Jean.
If Levi's has fallen off your radar, I suggest you check out the line for can't beat styles and great prices!
