Fashion Challenge - Wedding Appropriate Dresses

So, I have this wedding sneaking up on me later this month. No, not my own, but instead a New Orleans wedding for a good friend of mine. Attire has thus far been a puzzle...and then I spotted this lovely Diane von Furstenberg Celardo Tuxedo Dress. I definitely love it on the model, but what do you think? Is this wedding appropriate attire? I plan to pair it with a bold electric blue pump since I am quite tired of the obvious choice of red.

Current Mood - Inadequate

I swear, bloggers are taking over the world...or at least modern media these days. Exhibit a - Perez's VH1 show. Exhibit 2, er b - Diane, the lovely blogger at Bunnyshop, has written a book. No, that's not a typo...not a blog post or a newspaper article like SOME bloggers I know (me). An actual book. Said book is called Smart Girls Like Me (she's an arrogant one, that Diane...I kid, I kid) and it is garnering rave reviews from outlets like Nylon (who I just love). I suggest that you check out the synopsis here and grab a copy for yourself. Bloggers Rule! YAY!

A Blog Revolution at the Met

The Metropolitan Musuem of Art's Costume Exhibits are an absolute must for even casual fashion lovers. And now, the Museum is stepping boldly into the 21st century with a new exhibit, blog.mode: addressing fashion, on view Dec. 18 to April 13.

blog.mode: addressing fashion will include pieces acquired by the Costume Institute over the last seven years, including work by Azzedine Alaïa, Helmut Lang, Christian Dior, Comme des Garçons, Rudi Gernreich and Yohji Yamamoto among others. Ten computer terminals will be added to the Costume Institute galleries to allow bloggers immediate access to a Costume Institute blog to post their thoughts, reviews and criticisms.

According to WWD, the blog will be monitored daily by museum staff and remain open through the exhibit, eventually being excerpted in the official show catalog following the exhibit.

Fashion Celebrity Sighting!

So there I was in NoLIta today, shopping around with a few girlfriends and lo and behold...who do I see? Hedi Slimane, the former designer of Dior Homme. My excitement was palpapable as I stared his ass down. He made eye contact with me and if I could read his thought bubble, I think it likely said "Why is this girl staring at me???" No matter!

Plagiarism on the Web - Fun for Everyone?

I'm fucking furious. Twice in the past week, I've discovered that pieces that I have written - one on this blog and one for the Fall 2007 issue of Tango Magazine - have been plagiarized by other sites.

First of all, beauty and fashion bloggers, I urge you to visit this site, beauty.maxblog.eu, which appears to be aggregating content from US blogs and presenting it as it's own. I've reported it once for abuse (see link on bottom) and hopefully, if more of us do so, the blog will be removed from it's server.

UPDATE - The lovely and talented Elke Von Freudenberg of The Beauty Blog Network sent an intimidating e-mail that led to the removal of this site from it's network. Well done!

In addition, I was dismayed to see that a fellow blogger, The Beauty Counter, used a blurb (word for word!) on vinotherapy that I wrote for the Fall 2007 issue of Tango Magazine, which is on newsstands now.

As a working freelance journalist, I was saddened and angry at the lack of respect shown to my work and to intellectual property rights by both sites. Thankfully, The Beauty Counter has graciously added a note to credit Tango magazine as the source for this text.

Simply put, it's not ok to steal other people's work without appropriately crediting them. I hope that we ALL know better.
