What Every Canadian Should Know About the ACMPR Program
Since 2001, the Canadian government has been allowing citizens to access marijuana for medical purposes through a program called the ACMPR. Through the ACMPR, which stands for Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations, some people choose to access their magical medicine through licensed producers. In other words, someone else is doing the growing. Although this is seen as the easy way out and a convenient way to access medical cannabis, the better option is to start growing.
Growing Medically vs Recreationally
You probably already know that Canadians are legally allowed to grow recreational plants. At least you know if you’re a Canadian resident. The government recently passed what is called the Cannabis Act, allowing for legal purchasing and growing of recreational plants. But there’s a major catch when it comes to growing for recreational purposes.
The Cannabis Act only allows 4 recreational plants to be grown from home. For all the effort that is put into the grow process, it’s not worth it to cultivate just 4 plants. Applying separately for the ACMPR is the solution, which allows nearly 500 plants to be grown for personal use. Both the Cannabis Act and the ACMPR allow home growing. But there’s no question as to which one is better when it comes to plant counts.
Why Apply for an ACMPR License
Other than the fact that the ACMPR allows for more than 4 measly plants, there are countless reasons to apply for a medical grow license. An ACMPR license holder has complete control of his or her grow op. You’ll no longer have to rely on corporate-level growers out in BC to deliver a high-quality product that is capable of treating your medical ailments. Now, you’re in control.
Growing from home is the best way to get the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to medical treatment. Even though Canada is a country that provides free healthcare, it’s not as if the government is handing out free medical cannabis to those who need it. Just the opposite is true, actually. Patients in need of cannabis have to pay an outrageous amount of money for a small amount of their medical products.
When you grow your own at home, you’ll have to pay the initial cost of getting everything off the ground running. But you’ll make your money back within 3 months, if not sooner. No more paying high government prices and even higher taxes. And then there’s the whole convenience factor of growing your own medical products. There’s no need at all to leave the comforts of home and wait in a dispensary/pharmacy line.
Who is Eligible for a License to Grow
You might be surprised to hear that anyone is eligible for an ACMPR license to grow. As long as you go through the proper steps to receive your license and receive a valid medical document from a document, you’re good to go. And of course, you must be a resident of Canada.
